Terry Reynoldson

I've been making art for over thirty years. During that time I've created artworks using a wide variety of mediums and techniques ranging from traditional painting, drawing and sculpture to more experimental processes such as performance installation, email art and digital painting. Several overarching themes connect all of these diverse works: First, there is a desire to test the boundaries that separate disciplines and mediums. Second, there is an attempt to question accepted sources of authority in art and culture. Third, there is a longing to invert or eliminate hierarchies that seem arbitrary or pointless (eg., painting is better than sculpture, which is better than printmaking, which is better than drawing, and so on). Curiosity and pleasure are also important motivations for me whenever I make an artwork.

I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1990 from the University of Regina. I received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1995 from the University of Calgary. I've been the recipient of several major awards, including a Project Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. I've participated in many group and solo art exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Western Europe. Many of my artworks are housed in public and private collections around the world. My sculptures can be found on permanent display in public parks in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Currently, I maintain an active studio practice in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where I also teach aspiring young artists at the university and through community resource centres.
