Tactical Media Ecology

Tactical Media Ecology, a term coined by artist and theorist Paul Sergeant to describe the work of Byron Rich, uses pop culture visions of the near future to speculate on how emerging technologies and techniques of biological and computer science may be used.

Byron will discuss three projects—Epicurean Endocrinology, Microbiome Ark, and his upcoming work Avifauna of Paradise— and their development charted from ideation to execution.

About Byron Rich

Byron Rich is an artist, lecturer, and professor from Calgary, Alberta. He is the director of Art & Technology and Assistant Professor of Electronic Art & Intermedia at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. Byron’s work has been exhibited globally from ZKM to Science Gallery Dublin, and written about extensively including in Nature, The Lancet, Vice, CLOT, and Motherboard. Byron is a 2017 honorary mention recipient at the Prix Ars Electronica.
