Fall 2013 TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES

Applications are invited for sessional instructors to teach the following courses during the Fall 2013 session.  Applicants must hold a Masters-level degree (MA, MFA) but a PhD is preferred.  These term certain appointments are from September 8 to December 19, 2013. 
These course offerings are subject to budget reallocation, resources and minimum enrolments.

 

ARHI 201.01 Survey of Western Art in its Cultural Context: Pre-history to the Later Middle Ages

Course Description
A chronological examination of art and architecture in relation to significant historical and cultural events from Pre-history to about 1300 C.E.

 

ARHI 201.02 Survey of Western Art in its Cultural Context: Pre-history to the Later Middle Ages

Course Description
A chronological examination of art and architecture in relation to significant historical and cultural events from Pre-history to about 1300 C.E.

 

ARHI 405.01 Late Eighteenth and Early Nineteenth Century Art
Friday; 12:00-14:45

Course Description
A chronological examination of European painting and sculpture from the late eighteenth century through the Romantic period.

 

ARHI 425.01 Architecture in the Western World Since 1900
Monday/Friday; 15:30-16:45

Course Description
A survey of the most significant examples of modern architecture, defining their stylistic character in light of developments in technology, the history of ideas, and social and historical factors.

 

ART 231.02 Art Fundamentals: 2D
Tuesday/Thursday; 12:30-15:00

Course Description
Two-dimensional activities and the structural, organizational, perceptual, social and psychological aspects of art.

 

ART 241.04 Drawing I
Monday/Wednesday; 18:00-20:30

Course Description
Basic theory and practice of drawing, involving mainly still life and figure projects in monochromatic media.

 

ART 301.01 Studies in Contemporary Canadian Art
Wednesday; 15:00-17:45

Course Description
Study of recent Canadian art from a range of perspectives in art criticism.

 

ART 311.02 Topics in Art
Tuesday/Thursday; 9:30-10:45

Course Description
Topics in art may include art appreciation, art and everyday life, themes in art history.

 

ART 345.01 Anatomical Drawing I
Monday/Wednesday; 18:00-20:30

Course Description
Perceptual and drawing skills pertaining to human anatomical relationships.

 

ART 351.02 Painting I
Tuesday/Thursday; 18:00-20:30

Course Description
Painting on a two-dimensional surface; the use of oils and acrylics.

Course Description
A chronological examination of Western Art in relation to significant historical and cultural events from WWII to the present.

 

ART HISTORY 303.01 Art of Canada: 1900 to the Present

Course Description
Forms and concepts in Canadian art from 1900 to the present; the Group of Seven, Nationalism, Regionalism and more recent developments in Canadian art.

 

ARHI 365.01 Survey of Far Eastern Art: Japan
Monday/Wednesday; 14:00-15:15

Course Description
A chronological examination of the art and architecture of dynastic Japan, with special emphasis on Shinto and Buddhist traditions.

 

ARHI 407.01 Mid to Late Nineteenth Century Art
Friday; 12:00-14:45

Course Description
A chronological examination of European painting and sculpture of the Realist, Impressionist and Post-Impressionist periods.

 

ART 243.03 Drawing II
Monday/Wednesday; 14:00-16:30

Course Description
Continuation of Art 241, introducing colour media.

 

ART 336.01 Introduction to Digital Photography
Tuesday; 14:00-16:45

Course Description
Fundamental technical and aesthetic considerations in the use of the still Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera and basic use of the microcomputer in support of digital image processing in art.

 

ART 347.01 Anatomical Drawing II
Monday/Wednesday; 18:00-20:30

Course Description
Continuation of Art 345. Further study and work in anatomical drawing.

 

ART 439.01 Introduction to Electronic Media
Tuesday/Thursday; 13:00 – 15:30

Course Description
Theory and practice of art using electronic media; introduction to technical, aesthetic and conceptual aspects of the use of electronics in art.
